Every year our family makes a list of things that we want to do in the summer. Merriment of all kinds that will keep us entertained, amused, occupied, and out of the house (where most of the squabbles and sibling pecking goes on).
I use the items on the list as carrots to dangle in front of their noses.
We also like to go places where there is free A/C. We have no such luxury. Pioneers didn't believe in living comfortably. We live in a pioneer house. Thus, we must suffer equally as our predecessors did. We're humble like that.
Since summer has finally started in Utah (FYI, we have had record amounts of rain - so much so that I can probably count on one hand how many days it did not rain in June) we assembled our annual list of summer adventures. Thankfully, the heavens cleared, the rain stopped, and the kids could quit selling cups of rainwater at their corner stand. Popsicles are much more profitable.
Keep in mind that we usually only get maybe half of our list checked off. Especially with what feels like a shortened summer, we'll be really lucky to get that much done. But we try. And we plan. And we schedule. And we try to include dad in as many of these things as possible.
Poor guy. Working stinks.
If any of these activities spark your interest and you'd like to come with the Gregson brood, give us a call. The more the merrier and it's always more fun when friends come along.
Plus, our clan seems to behave better when other people are around.

Awesome list! We also do the same by making a list. Ours is not quite so long but lots of fun.
Come see my booth at Festival Days this weekend. I have lots of cute hair clips. I think Kennedy would love them.
Love that you make a list like that every summer! It would make summer more purposeful and ensure that everyone's hopes and dreams are accounted for. We kinda just float from one day to the next, but I think we'll follow the Gregson example and take a more organized approach next year!
I'm not sure what #5 & #26 are, but they sound glorious (must be the mention of water in the hot summer that catches my attention!)
I'm glad you only get half the list done, too - I always feel like I failed or let summer get away from us when I haven't accomplished it all, but I guess it's really unrealistic!
Anything would be fun to do with you guys....should we start with #'s 8, 9, 13, 14, 20, 24, 25, & 37? Hopefully, Ryan isn't grounded anymore by the time you do your outdoor movie on your house! "I can use that as my CARROT!" :)
Holy cow, I just love to visit your blog. I love your writing, (and Jeff's) sense of humor, and candidness about life. I thought I'd let you know that I'm checking in on your family and am glad to hear that all is well. I plan to refer back to your summer fun list, but have lesser expectations for myself. Smile!
Looks like summer has been good to you so far and has much more fun in store!! I love the idea of making a list! We are going to have to start that up as a tradition too!
Okay...a bean museum? Please elaborate. That sounds like something right up my alley.
And if you never take any other advice from me, take this: When you go to Moab, set aside one morning to go into the Island in the Sky portion of Canyonlands National Park. Go to Mesa Arch, but you have -- HAVE -- to get there before sunrise (the drive from Moab is roughly an hour and the hike from the parking area takes about ten minutes). This is one of the great treasure of that area. The only people up there at that hour --if there is anyone -- will be photographers, because they know the secret.
Mesa Arch sits on the edge of a 1,500 foot cliff (RIGHT on the edge) and it overlooks a valley to the east. When the sun rises over the eastern mountains it shines right through that arch - lighting it up a firey red. It only lasts for a few minutes, but it's spectacular!
Trust me.
