Mom in Need of Suggestions

Shaw has absolutely outgrown his cradle that is still in our room. Why, you might ask, have we not just moved him into his crib upstairs with the other kids? This is why:

He sleeps with his face planted straight down. He sometimes moves his head to the side, but most of the time it is just like this. He always starts out on his back but rolls over onto his tummy because it must be more comfortable for him. He's too big for the sleeping wedge we had so that won't work (unless there's another product out there that we don't know about). I'm scared to put him all the way upstairs until I know he won't smother himself by sleeping this way. How can he possibly breathe? We do have a video monitor that will help when he moves to the boys' room, but do I dare do it until I know he'll turn his head? I'm so paranoid about SIDS. Any suggestions?

I was really worried about SIDS as well. I don't know if it's true, but I've read that once they can roll themselves onto their tummy than it's alright to let them sleep like that. You could always use a pack and play in your room.

We have thought of the pack and play. That may be our answer for the time being.

Cedric is in a pack and play in our room still. Orson is still in the crib and I have been dreading moving him out because then he can get out of bed on his own, and I don't think he will ever go to sleep. I don't think Shaw would have any trouble breathing as long as he doesn't sleep on anything too soft and squishy. But I'm like you I would be nervous about him sleeping like that.

dax did this too and it freaked jer and i right out. he only did it for a month and then he decided to give us a break and lay his head to the side. i would say, just make sure when he sleeps he doesn't lay on anything squishy. if it bothers you that bad, borrow a pack and play and keep him in your room for a few more weeks. BUT DON'T BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE whose last kid sleeps with them until their like 6. ahhhhh!!

Yuck. I would worry too. WHY do kids do these crazy things? I think the pack and play is a good idea for now. Maybe you'll have to get a new, brick-stiff crib mattress.

Tangent Alert: I hate to see parents put a blanket right on top of a baby's face to get them to sleep...not even perched over the carseat strap or anything. Twice I have sneakily pinched a blanket peak or hole to get some air to a snoozing baby! Yeah, of course they sleep better that way...It's called asphyxiation!!
