1. My dad is doing better.
{Read as: He has been the recipient of 2 ambulance rides to the hospital in a one week period of time, has been a candidate for pushing daisies at least twice, and has suddenly become a devout vegan. As trying as it's been for our family, it's been an opportunity to grow as individuals, to come together as a family, it's allowed for some relationships to start to heal, and has been a spiritual experience. I am grateful for hospitals, for the power of the Priesthood, and for the fact that my dad is still here with us.}
2. Shaw is getting smarter on a daily basis.
{Read as: Kennedy is teaching him to count to 10 in Spanish and French. Keep in mind that he's not yet two and his favorite vocabulary word is still "puppy" - which he says at least 3,892 times per day. I guess he'll be able to count at least 10 puppies if he visits France or South America anytime soon.}
3. We should start digging for our new addition within the next 2 weeks.
{Read as: Huzzah!}
4. I now have a 14 year old.
{Read as: Teenagers are expensive. I think all I asked for on my 14th birthday was some electric blue mascara, an Esprit shirt, and perhaps a bottle of hairspray. I certainly did not hint for - nor receive - an iTouch. Thanks to all the grandparents for pitching in.}
5. My half marathon is in just over 4 weeks.
{Read as: I'm so sick of running I want to cry. I'm ready for the race now and want it to be over now so that I can ease up on my running now. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to keep a positive vibe going when you're running for 2 hours? My long runs aren't so physically draining as they are mentally draining. Can you say bor-ing? Is it possible to be too ADD to be a runner? 'Cuz I think I would fit into that category.}
6. My Girls' Getaway is one week away.
{Read as: Tower of Terror, Monte Cristo sandwich, and the musty smell of Pirates of the Caribbean can't come soon enough. This past week and a half has been emotionally exhausting and I need to get out of Dodge.}
7. I love the sunshine.
{Read as: Sunshine makes me happy.}
8. I need a Chevron striped shower curtain.
{Read as: I want a Chevron striped shower curtain. I'm ready to redo the upstairs bathroom but the whole design is centered around a black and white Chevron striped shower curtain which I can't find anywhere. I'm even willing to just get the fabric and somehow hot glue or fabric glue or staple one together on my own, but I can't even find the fabric. Any internet navigators out there want to help me? I'm considering offering a finder's reward for anyone who is willing to lend a hand.}
9. I'm a mean mom.
{Read as: I really do think I'm a mean mom. I give consequences and stick to them. I make my kids try hard things. I make them brush their teeth twice a day and call them back after each brushing to clean out the nasty toothpaste film in the sink. I won't do McDonald's. I make them empty the dishwasher. I force them to give me hugs and kisses regardless of their gender or age, and I won't let them wear the same pair of pants the entire week. See? MEAN!}
10. Prayers are answered.
{Read as: We have a Heavenly Father who knows our hearts, hears our prayers, and answers them according to His will. He is there. He listens to us. He loves us.}

I think it's time for you to get Shaw a "puppy!" :) Brookelle's Go-To word is "woo-see!" That same "word" now means, "Lucy" "fishy" "horsey" "Wash me" and "Let me see" - I have to be a gifted translator to be the Mom of a big baby/little toddler, I tell ya! :)
Doesn't having A.D.D. HELP with running LONG...because your mind is wandering all over the place, getting distracted like crazy, just totally zoning out? I remember running back home the same way I'd come and see something and think to myself, "Was that there when I came by the FIRST time? How did I miss that?" :) Just remember YOU ARE AWESOME for being able to run 2 HOURS straight!
I think I might have you beat on the Mean Mom thing, though...
I make my kids to their OWN homework/Science Projects/Portfolios. I refuse to do it for them. Because, afterall, I ALREADY passed 2nd/5th/8th Grade! I make them take naps 'til 1st Grade when they go to all-day school. I don't let them ditch out on performing at their piano recital to go to a baseball game instead. I have no problem with grounding. I don't let them watch T.V. on weekdays during the school year. I make them complete jobs before play. I withhold treats for whatever reason I deem neccesary. I charge them $.05 per clean clothing item that they erroneously send to the dirty clothes hamper (just as an easy way to "clean" their room.) AND, the biggest proof of all? I have NOT purchased or given my 14 year old an iTouch! ;)
But, I fully AGREE with all your "Mean Mom" tactics - especially the pants thing!
Kristen, you asked for running advice. You know I'm always up for giving advice. Sounds like you're ready for an easy week. Take one. Run long one more time before your half, then "taper" meaning run less and less until the race. Best cures for boredom? New courses and new partners. It's amazing what running in a different location will do. Feels half as long. Congratulations on your training. You're awesome!

What a great post. I am so excited for you for your girls get-away and for your half marathon. Good luck! And so exciting for your addition. You put it well :) I am glad to know I am not the only mean mom out there, I worry sometimes. And I hope all goes well with your dad. You are amazing!!!
Glad to hear your dad is doing better. I have been wondering all week and was going to e-mail you about it this morning!!!
You are not a mean mom, you are just being a mom - and that is a good thing!!! Kids have lots of friends, but only two parents - and our job is to teach them!!! I've seen you with your kids - you are a GREAT mom.
As for your running dilemma, my solution has been to not run. I can do any other form of exercise forever, but I have always hated running - don't know why!!!
Have a great trip to the Southland. I'm sure you could use a little time away from all that is going on - come back refreshed and recharged and ready to jump back in. We all need that!
kristen...glad to hear shaw is going to be tri-lingual before age 2...he and his boy pals need to hang out more.
you are halarious, as always and glad things are easing up a bit for you in life...
and...one week baby! one week!!!!!
Love this post. Makes me smile when reading a friend's blog leaves me feeling like I live next door and know what's going on in their lives! Miss you guys :)
